Gonatodes fuscus

A nice reptile that does well under most circumstances is the small gekko Gonatodes fuscus. It will do well in vivariums, if provided with sufficient food (fruitflies, little crickets and waxmoth-larvae will do, additions are always welcome) warmth (between 16 and 35°C), a source of radiation heat for one hour a day and the usual vitamines and calcium. One can only house one pair at a time in normal sized vivariums. They will reproduce rather easy, but the juveniles are hard to find, and in planted vivariums even harder to capture. When they grow up next to their parents they will eventually be killed.
One method to raise juveniles safely is to seperate them from their parents as eggs. Females will hide their eggs in crevices and holes. Old bromeliad-cisterns are often used but normally eggs are hard to find. A hollow piece of Bamboo with a opening in the side is almost irresistable to laying females, I have experienced. Once a month I shake the little eggs out and have them incubated (27-30°C). Juveniles can be raised in small vivariums or even cricketboxes. They sometimes tend to be a little afraid of fruitflies. No wonder at their size.. Small waxmoth-larvae are to be fed then.
