Arctic West Summer - 1998

USCG Polar Sea

In 1998, I was fortunate enough to experience a whole month in the Arctic Ocean. As member of the scientific team onboard the Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Sea, I investigated Arctic marine microorganisms and invertebrates for Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The project was funded by the National Institute of Health. To read more about Science in the Arctic with Polar Sea click here.

Polarbear

Is this lonesome observer inspecting the huge red object cutting through the Arctic ice or perhaps just catching the scent of some tasty scientists?
