| Background | Based on an overview of what the tropical coastal zone is, this module critically reviews current issues which demand the environmental manager's attention and looks at important recent experiences in addressing them. | ||||
| Aims | To provide students with an advanced understanding of the major biological, ecological and physical processes affecting critical evaluation of development projects impacting productive tropical coastal systems. | ||||
| Objectives | Upon successful completion of this module, students will have an appreciation of what the tropical coastal zone is, what systems constitute it, and what the principal environmental issues affecting it are. Students will have an understanding of what the principal natural and anthropogenic processes maintaining and altering structure and function of tropical coastal systems are, and the extent to which such influences can be managed. Skills will be gained in the quantitative characterisation of sediments and in sourcing and reporting of data on complex tropical coastal issues. | ||||
