THORELIUS FAMILY
IN VASTERAS, SWEDEN

OUR FAMILY
consists of four persons (and two guinea-pigs). We have lived in the city of
Vasteras since we became a family. During the summer vacation we spend the time mostly on the East Coast of Sweden, or go abroad. In the winter we go up to northern Sweden for a week of downhill skiing. As with most families we also try to spend some time together on weekends, doing different things. The workdays are rather hectic, unfortunately, and don't let us see each other very much.
Jan
The name Jan (pronounced almost like yawn) has the same origin as John. This photo was taken in May 1997. I am a consultant cardio-thoracic surgeon at the University Hospital in Uppsala, where I also studied medicine. For the last five years I have also spent time doing research concerning the metabolism of the heart in conjunction with coronary surgery. In 1996 I defended my thesis at Uppsala University and got my Ph.D. Apart from working I like the outdoors a lot - it is a welcome and perhaps necessary contrast to the time I spend inside the hospital.
Heléne
Heléne manages to keep this business together while the three others are at school/out/at work. She also works in a hospital, the one in Vasteras, as a counselor in the Dept of Internal Medicine and the Dept of Lung Disease. She doesn't like this picture very much, and it is agreed that it is not extremely good - but it is the only one available right now. It will be changed as soon as possible.
Christian
Christian is 15 years old. A 9th grader now, he will start in high school this fall, with a natural-scientific profile. He is interested in everything that has to do with math. In his free time he likes to follow sports and world events. He knows a lot about horse racing. Fishing is a summertime favorite, and downhill skiing is his winter sport. Sleeping late is an all year around specialty that he masters and enjoys immensely.
Daniel
Daniel is 12 years old and a 6th grader, beginning in junior high school this fall. He is very interested in sports, and consequently has chosen a sports-oriented profile in his coming three school years. Like Christian, he enjoys fishing and downhill skiing. Other favorites include computer games and his new Nintendo Ultra 64 console. The latest favorite, however, seems to be to go to Mc Donald's all the time - perhaps we don't feed him well enough?
