Due to such a favourable response to the '98 colours Scorpa have rightly decided to keep the striking metallic blue and white colour scheme with completely new design decals which give an overall more up to date look. A smaller headlight completes the difference visually
Rotax have completely redesigned the crankcase assembly to give greater torque at low and mid range making the power more rider friendly for the new rule system. They have also improved the strength of the engine in some areas
A new idle gear assembly has been incorporated by Rotax to improve starting with stronger mountings for the pinion. On the more popular 250 model, as ridden by Jarvis, the inlet box has been removed to give an overall softer power. The 280 model remains the same as the '98 model to give the 'big engine fanatics' maximum power throughout the range
A BIG improvement has been made by modifying the ignition. Scorpa have been working on this all year with Jarvis and the results of this are exceptional, particularly for the new non stop rule
The Scorpa has proved by its results this year to be an ideal machine for the new rules. It's long stroke (at 68 the same as the air cooled Yam) combined with the new ignition system and it's brilliant neutral steering make it a must for anyone's shopping list. It will be available in both 280 and the more popular 250 version
The UK importers Malcolm Rathmell Sport report that there are exciting developments taking place at the Montpellier based factory and hope to bring you more news shortly about this . Certainly their results in the World Championship and taking the Premier Award at this year's Scottish Six Days has drawn some interest from some very influential parties. In the short term they have just received backing from the French company responsible for installing all the TV cable for the recent World Cup Series. Company boss Philippe Areston is a trials enthusiast who has watched the championship activities with growing interest. Certainly no one could have predicted at the start of the season that Scorpa would come so close to actually winning a world round and they are aware of the need to have more backing to compete with the other factories at this level
Whilst fully appreciating the effort of the team in the world championship this year co-owner and development engineer Joel Domergue still stands true to his principles of making a bike for the majority - those riders out there called customers! Those priorities certainly don't change although he recognises that the new non stop system goes a long way to bridging the gap between what is needed at world level and what is needed at club level. There's still a long way to go yet but he hopes that we are on the right track of bringing the sport back to more traditional values. Try the new '99 Scorpa and you won't fail to recognise just how user friendly it is with a reliability which has given it a reputation fully deserved.
