THE VINDELRIVER

The Vindelriver is one of the few rivers  in Sweden   who  is   unaffected by regulations and  powerplants exploitation. Our  river is Vindelns identificationmark.  It’s 445 km  long and flows from the border with Norway into the Umeriver only 25 km from  the ocean.

FISHING

The Vindelriver  is a national well-known fishingwater with a lot of fine fishingplaces along the whole rivervalley.You can mainly fish grayling, trout and salmon in the water.The salmonpopulation was until the 80:ies the best in the country. Higher up in the riversystem (Storvindeln) the are some big trouts ascan attain considerable   sizes. Downstream the river is  the Hemseleriver and it is reserved  for fly-fishing. There you can get lot of grayling but also some bigger trouts. The fishing-seasons starts the 15th juli but the best fishing time is in August. Even in   the start of September if you are fishing when it’s still light you can get a lot of fishes.

THE  VINDELRIVER DOGSLEIGH RACE

Every year at the beginning of March , Vindeln arranges the contest known as "The Vindelriver dogsleigh race". It’s a relay which is devided in a period of four days. Every day the racers go between 6-22 km. The racers can have 1-8 dogs in their equipage. Thow with many equipage starts after the others. The relay is between Ammarnäs-Vännäsby and 200-300 dogs participates every year. There are both people who are professional and people who have it like their hobby who are racing in the relay. And it’s maybe that which creates the nice atmosphere.
