Hmmmm, where to start?
It is a kinda big city you know, at least with Nordic measurements.
It is placed on the western part of Sweden and has about the same climate as NYC during
fall.
About 600 000 ppl live here and the culture have since the beginning of time circled
around the harbor the cuts the city in half. And the harbor itself is cut into two pieces
by this big bridge that crosses the river slowly flowing through.
The river is called "Göta Älv" |
A little bit further into the harbor they are
rebuilding lots of things and about two years ago they managed to finish building our
brand new opera house.
I just love the architecture of the building so sometimes I just wander around it and
relax, really nice, promise!
This summer Volvo hired the whole opera house for two months just to introduce a new car
model. And they say that their economy is falling apart, yeah sure! |

Just besides the opera house we have this nice
ship. I think it is about 100 years old and have been docked in the harbor for as long as
I can remember. But it is a very beautiful ship now that they have renovated it. My
brother actually had his wedding reception on that ship. It was just a little bit special
to have that kind of party in the middle of the city on an old old ship (and we almost
burnt the ship down too, but don't tell, hehe)
Speaking about ships, on the other side of the river there is being built a replica of an
300 year old cargo ship which they will send on it's original journey when they get
finished with it. To China and back. The original ship sank on it's maiden voyage and they
must have been furious because they sank about 2 miles just west of Gothenburg on the way
back from China !!!!
What a destiny. |
| Another big and nice thing we have here in
Gothenburg is Liseberg, a themepark, which all circles around bunnies, Gothenburg and
getting sick to your stomach. It's like the Busch Gardens of Gothenburg and they have
artists performances and rollercoasters and stuff in there. Skyranger always goes here and
dances "classical" dances for some reason. And they always play something called
"dansbandsmusik" (our version of country I would guess) and it is quite
disgusting. |

Does that look like something you would like to
ride ? I don't think so and therefor I stay firmly on the ground and hear the screams of
agony. And with this attraction it is actually maybe best to scream anyway since during
it's first two seasons got stuck in all kinds of weird places and ppl sitting there could
get a much longer ride then they wished for, not such a wild one maybe but it sure must
have been scary ;) |
And we have churches too!!
Some look kinda cute and neat and like a place where happiness resides. And then we have
the Vasa church!
It looks like something that just have arrived from two floors below and wishes to pull
you down with it! I just love it!!
The art in the windows are things like burning swords, old Nordic folklore figures, suns,
stars and of course Jesus sitting on a throne holding a big sword.
The ppl who built it must have had a thing for swords...hmmm |

Guess what this is.....3....2....1....
It is a grave !!!! or well at least a mausoleum for a very rich guy. One of those that
made Gothenburg what it is today. In a cemetery quite close to the center of the city
there is a couple of these really big monuments and I just found that out two weeks ago.
The family buried here is called Seaton and my dad said that they have a couple of
mansions around the city. Obviously a few I have seen. Taste the sentence "They have
a FEW mansions" geeee |
And finally a little picture I think represents
how houses just outside of the city center look in Sweden. they come in all kinds of
colors and shapes but most common is red (don't ask me why cause it is a long story).
Well that was at least a little of Gothenburg and it's surroundings, maybe I will type
more later. |
