New years party

On New Years eve No Doubt was the first band to play on MTV this year, this decade, this millennium if you wish. They did an excellent version of R.E.M.'s "It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine)". It's a really hard song to sing, well I don't know if the verses are really called singing, but I think they pulled it off. Good to see them on stage again. They also had a little chat with Carson Daly before they played:

CARSON DALY: This is great you guys. When was the last time you actually performed on TV? I mean this is like a monumentous occation.

GWEN STEFANI: A couple of years now I think, yeah.

CARSON: Are you ready for tonight Adrian?

ADRIAN YOUNG: Hell yeah!

CARSON: Ardian has a horror story to tell everyone in just a little bit. How was 1999 though for you guys in general?

GWEN: I think the best thing about 1999 was that we finished our album finally.

CARSON: Yeah, absolutely.

GWEN: We decided that we weren't going to put it out until we thought it was the best thing we've ever done and so we're ready to do it in April.

CARSON: Oh, it's going to be a killer. Can't wait to hear some of it a little later.

(someone is playing the drums really loud)

ADRIAN: Hey Carson, could you tell the Goo Goo Dolls to shut up.

(laughter)

CARSON: The Goo Goo Dolls are coming up in just a little bit. Right now though we need to talk to Daria. Daria, 1999 has been a great year for music. Where do you see music going in the year 2000?

L-R: Tom, Tony, Adrian, Gwen & Kurt Loder

This was all that was broadcasted on an hour special show on New years day on MTV Europe. The real live broadcast might have shown more tidbits with No Doubt for example a chat with Kurt Loder as the picture above shows. No Doubt also preformed their next single "Ex-Girlfriend" and an oldie from Tragic Kingdom, "Spiderwebs". Unfourtunally that wasn't included on the hour special show.
