Pictures of Miami
This page is yet another experiment. It will let you view some pictures
of Miami as it looked in its glamorous days. I have tried to select mostly
pictures of places and objects that we like and can be found near our home.
Choose from these:
- Matheson
Hammock Park. A natural lagoon, still a very popular place to take
a swim. Comfortable cycling distance from our apartment.
- The
Rickenbacker Causeway, before the new bridge was built. Goes between
Central Miami and Key Biscayne. Popular site for watersports.
- Miami
Seaquarium. Still a popular tourist attraction. (We get in for free,
since we have a one year membership.)
- Miami
Beach, where the rich and famous live. My favourite beach for swimming,
not in any stagnant bay, but on the Atlantic coast.
- The
then new University Building, where I do not work. I work at the Jackson
Medical Center in a ugly and poor part of the town. Bad luck.
- Vizcaya,
also known as the James Deering Estate. Once the home of a stinking rich
industrialist with collector's mania.
- A relatively modern view of City
Centre. There are more tall buildings today, of course, but you get
the idea.
- The Biltmore
Hotel in Coral Gables, a rather tidy part of Miami. In it's heyday,
this hotel offered its guestsreal first-class service, such as complimentary
autogiro transportation.
- Banyan
tree. They grow all over the place. The tropical vegetation is one
of the few things I really like about Miami.
- The royal
poinciana is another tree that I like. Especially common in Key West,
but also seen in Miami, behind our house, for instance.
