The final incarnation of the 109 was the Spanish-built
Hispano-Suiza fighter series. Having achieved 25 G-2
airframes from Germany, but no engines, the assembler
initially fitted them with the Hispano-Suiza HS 12Z engine
delivering 1300 hp. The result was designated Ha-1109.
Since this combination proved not entirely satisfactory,
in 1953 work began on yet another variant, using the
thoroughly proven Rolls-Royce Merlin powerplant.
When production of the Ha-1112 ended in 1956, it
marked the end of 21 years of production of this
truly classic fighter airplane.
