Joe (Joe Thomas) is probably mostly known for his songs All The Things (Your Man Won't Do) from the Don't Be A Menace... soundtrack, and Don't Wanna Be A Player from the soundtrack to How To Be A Player. Those two songs have sold more than 1.2 million copies together. When All The Things was first released in 1996, Joe didn't have a record deal. But that wasn't because he was new to the game, he actually released an album in 1993, entitled Everything. The album sold less than 50.000 copies, so he left the label, Mercury.
Back then, you could maybe compare him to
Bobby Brown, but Joe,
a skilled musician who writes and produces as well as plays the guitar and keyboards, didn't fit into that personality.

He wasn't satisfied with his career until
All The Things became a hit. According to Billboard Magazine, it was the most played song on American R&B radio in 1996. Because of the success
of that song, Jive offered him a record deal, but this time, he insisted on creative control. The result was
All That I Am, which has sold more than 500.000 copies. He was also the excecutive producer
of the album. The song
I Want To Know is Joe's answer to Whitney Houston's Shoop Shoop from the Waiting To Exhale Soundtrack.

Music has always been a central part of Joe's life. Both his parents are preachers, and Joe was always singing, playing guitar or directing the choir in his parents' Pentecostal Church in Opelika, Alabama. hen one day, he took life changing risk and purchased a one-way bus ticket to New Jersey where he knew some people who knew some people in the music business. And the rest is history...
