The best way to see the harbour is to take the "Paddan boats". In this
way you will have a tour through the canals as well as the harbour.
In the early 20th century until the mid 70s´ Gothenburg had 3 big
shipyards, namely götaverken, eriksberg and Lindholmen. But with the regression and the
oil crisis in the mid 70s´ they went bust. Today remains only some off-shore and repair
business like here at the Götaverken City shipyard with its pontons.
LEFT :Entering the harbour you will notice at once the Elfsborg
bridge. It was opened in 1966. There is also the Göta Älvbro and a tunnel further up the
river. To the left is the Hisingen island where the shipyards are situated and on the
right hand side is the city center.
