Joacim &
Anders gay guide to Madrid.

We went to Madrid during the Easter weekend 9/4 to 13/4 1998. There we stayed
at the gay Hostal Odesa, at Calle Hortaleza 38 in the gay quarters. It is a
very nice hostal, perfect situated in the middle of the gay scene. Our friend
Jesus met us at the airport and we went to his apartment and then further on to
the hostal. We then went on to Star´s Bar, at Mqs Valdeiglesias 5, it was
crowded but it was not a very funny place. After that we moved on to Why Not
Bar, at San Bartolomé 6, it is a small bar in a cellar with marvelous music and
very nice and friendly atmosphere, it was my favorite bar in Madrid. Every time
we went to Why Not we met lots of nice people. Then at 3.00 o'clock it was time
to go to disco Refugio, at Doctor Cortezo 1. It was a very good disco in a room
looking like a cave.

At Friday Jesus took us for sightseeing around Madrid. It is a beautiful city
with many fountains, big parade streets, many statues, one place we came back
to every day for a beer was Plaza Mayor, it is a big square with many cafés. In
the night we visited XXX Bar, at San Marcos 8. It is a good bar with good view
at what happens in the street outside and it has a disco in the cellar. Then of
course we paid a visit to Why Not. Later we went on to disco Angels of Xenon,
at Atocha 38. But it was not so many people there so we went on to disco
Refugio.

At Saturday we did some shopping and in the night Jesus took us to see a show
at restaurant Gula Gula, at Gran Via 1. It was four transvestites and three
very muscular and sexy boys. After that we walked to Ras Bar, at Barbieri 7. Then
we stoped by Why Not again of course. Then we went to disco Xenon and now it
was crowded. During the night when we was in the lower bar, suddenly it was not
possible to breathe and our eyes started to hurt with many tears. It was pepper
spray, so everyone had to rush to the upper floor and after 30 minutes we could
go back down again.

At Sunday we took a walk to the parks and castle at the west side of Madrid. In
the night we ate at a small restaurant near our hostal and then we went to the
teadance at Shangay, at Mesonero Romanus 13. They played very good music and
had a game were everyone had a number on them and other people could write them
notes, I must say that I prefer to speak to people face to face.

Generally the bars are crowded after midnight and the discos after 3 am. The
people are very nice and friendly but do not speak so good English. We had a
marvelous time in Madrid thanks to Jesus and his funny friends and not to forget
the sexy and nice men at all the bars and discos
