In IARU region 1 where I live a standard for exchange of contest logs have now been around since 1997, and finally tools for handling these logs are showing up on a bigger scale. In Sweden and especially Denmark this format has been in use almost ever since the standard was approved. Since I have implemented the software used in sweden for handling all contest results for the NAC monthly and quarterly contests believe I know this standard rather good by now.
An old saying is "Don't fix what's not broken". So is the REG1TEST EDI file format broken? I which I could say yes to this question without hesitating. I really can't say it's totally broken, but there are some things that really needs to be fixed. While we are at it we could also do some additional work on it to facilitat for software developers.
Since I started thinking about this I have found the XDIF project. I am studying that project and will likely scrap all my previous thoughts in this area and go for XDIF instead.
