5. Veterinary health certificate: An official
veterinarian in the country of dispatch (not in Sweden) shall,
on the original form from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, certify
that the dog is considered to be healthy and that it has been
dewormed against tapeworm (Echninococcus granulosus/Echinonococcus
multilocularis) with an approved preparation (see
page 3). The certificate is valid for a period of 10 days
after the veterinary examination and deworming and shall be presented
to the customs authorities at the point of entry. To prevent
tapeworm from spreading into Sweden the dog should be dewormed
one additional time by the owner after entering Sweden (e.g.
using Droncit). (If the dog has only remained in Denmark, Finland,
Norway or Sweden for a period not less than one year before import
it does not have to be dewormed against tapeworm)
Upon shorter trips from Sweden to
Denmark or Finland for a period of not more than ten days, a
veterinary health certificate is not necessary. A valid permit
and a compiled veterinary certificate must however be carried
in the usual manner. A written owners assurance is always requested,
i. e. the animal owner assures that the dog has only remained
in Denmark or Finland during the period in question.
A six-week certificate as an alternative to
the veterinary health certificate may be granted to dogs commuting
between Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Norway and wich is resident
of any of these countries. The certificate shall be issued by
an official veterinarian and is valid for a period of six weeks
from the date of issue. During the period of validity the dog
may only remain in any one of these countries wich shall be evident
from the owner assurance. The six-week certificate is not valid
for import into Norway.
