Alright kidz, the story started during the Nordic cold winter, when 1997 turned the page into 1998. Jocke came home from his annual vacation trip down to Vietnam, and one word that sounded a lot like a kickass hard rocking band was offered as a form of transportation down there. Back home in Gothenburg of Sweden, Bobby Dawn and Bad Ass Henke was tempted with a lot of liquor into Jockes kitchen to record a bunch of hard-hitting riffs and catchy melodies on a portable studio. One thing led to another and Monster Magnus and Andy Be-Bop were drafted to the RICKSHAW camp to fill the five piece rock nīroll quintet. RICKSHAWs first recording session resulted in a home made seven-track CD, quickly selling out and even being bootlegged in such places as Yugoslavia and Greece. The demo received ravishing reviews in the local papers, giving the RICKSHAW guys their first smell of success and another recording session was quickly booked. This session resulted in the vinyl EP "Electric Showdown", released in the summer of 1998 on local label HDP. The four songs showed that the band was not letting go of the stranglehold they held of their newly built fan base. With great arrangements and an aggressive style of self promotion RICKSHAW kept building their momentum and "Electric Showdown" was awarded tremendous reviews all over Europe, including top score in leading magazines such as KERRANG! Both editions of the now much sought after record sold out in a matter of months. RICKSHAW kept touring all over Sweden like maniacs and released a split seven-incher with local fellows TRIGGER. Soon Stockholm based label BELUGA got a smell of the nasty RICKSHAW odour and demanded to release the bands debut album. "Tender Songs of Love" was released all over Europe on delicious vinyl in late 2000. By this time the band was experience some changes in their line-up. Bad Ass Henke left the group and long time friend Anders Iwers of TIAMAT helped the band out, performing the bass duty on some shows. A split single with fellow American rockers Adam West was released in early 2001, resulting in a Scandinavian tour. RICKSHAW found a permanent replacement in Carlos Satanos. Satanos came from a classic rock upbringing and made a name for himself in the underground circles in local metal band ABANDON. Soon thereafter the band parted ways with drummer Monster Magnus, and after a while they found their new Rickshawrocker behind the drumkit. Markus "Machabuzz" Nordberg had formerly been a pioneer in the Swedish Death Metal scene. He was one of the forces behind the infamous "Gothenburg Sound", playing in Cemetary and Ceremonial Oath. The latter consisting future members of both Hammerfall and In Flames. Machabuzz gave RICKSHAW a harder and ballsier edge with his unique style of drumming. RICKSHAW rehearsed a couple of weeks and headed into the studio once again. This time a split CD on German label Dare Devil was in the plan. "Double Deluxe" was co-produced with Anders Iwers and was released in August of 2001 in Europe, USA and Australia. RICKSHAW continued their quest for world domination and rocked on through the borders of Sweden. Compilations all over the world wanted to have RICKSHAW on their releases. The band gained more and more popularity throughout the world of rock, gigging wherever there were room enough to fill with their testosteronous sweat. In early 2002 the man holding the organ, Andy Be-Bop, decided he didnīt want to live the rockstar life with free sex, drugs and money anymore. RICKSHAW welcomed the sound of a rawer and harder sound. Swedish label Bootleg Booze released the Numbing Fuel single in February 2002, the first time featuring the songwriting skills of Carlos Satanos. The same month saw RICKSHAW make a deal with German label Devils Shit Burner Records. The CD/LP "Action...Go!" was released for the German market during the summer. RICKSHAW finally came down to greet their hungry German fans later that year, celebrating the bands signing with super cool American label Devil Doll Records. The rest, as they say, will be history.
