Whiskey in the jar (Trad)
As I
was going over the Gilgarra mountain
I
spotted corneal Farrell and his money he was counting.
First
I drew my pistol, and than I drew my rapier.
Saying
stand up and deliver, for I am a bold deceiver,
Ref
musha
ring dumma do damma da
whack
for the daddy 'ol
whack
for the daddy 'ol
there's
whiskey in the jar
Well
he counted out his money, and it made a pretty penny.
I
put it in my pocket to take home to darling Jenny.
She
said and swore she loved me, and never would deceive me,
but
the devil take the women, for they always lie so easy
Ref.
I
went into my chamber, all for to take a slumber,
To
dream of gold and girls and of course it was no wonder.
But
Jenny took my charges and she filled them up with water,
and
called for corneal Farrel to be ready for the slaughter.
Ref.
Well
next morning early, before I rose to travel,
Acame
a band of footman and likewise corneal Farrel.
I
first produced my pistol, for she stole away my rapier,
And
a prisoner I was taken for I couldn’t shoot the water.
Ref.
Well
they put me into jail, with the judge all awriting
Robbing
corneal Farrel, up on Gilgarra Mountain
Well
they didn’t take me fists, and I knocked the jailer down
And
bid a farewell to this tight fisted town
Ref.
I’d
like to find me brother, the one that’s in the army,
I
don’t know where he’s stationed in Cork or in Killarney.
Together
we go roaming of the mountains of Kilkenny,
I
swear he'll treat me fairer than me sporting darling Jenny
Ref.
There’s
some takes delight in the carriages o rolling,
Some
takes delight in the hurly of the balling.
But
I takes delight in the juice of the barley,
Courting
pretty maids in the morning o so early
