My name is Marcelo Dougnac Cordaro(1950),
and my wifes name is Margarita Boussac Gonzales(1953):
We have four children, Susana (1977),
Jorge (1978), Andrés(1981) and Sandra (1986).
We try to contribute to preserve the family name
alive in this latitudes.
This "Home page" is called "The Dougnac family in Sweden" because we are the first Dougnac known to be settled in this part of the world. We are very proud to became a new branch of a family of uncertain origin, adventurous by nature and spread all over the world. The Pyrenees seems to be the place of our ancestors, and The Basque the country where the name appeared first.
Knowing four generations of Dougnac´s I agree with Andrew Thomas (1971) with the definition of the Basques that he makes in "The secrets of the Atlantis". We definitely are "unique in our genus and different to any other European group.., we are related to the Cro-Magnon people who settled on the French and Spaniard Pyrinees during the glacial era, we were neither (and still are not) similar to any inhabitant of those countries or related to any other people of the East".
Rafael Altamira (1952) in "The History of Spain" means that: " ..maybe they are the only survivor of the prehistoric tribes who occupied the caverns in the Pyrinees and the ones who left so many evidences of their technical and artistic ability".
Thomas (1971) continues telling us " ..only them, among all other people of west Europe, have kept one of the characteristics of the most primitive razes, namely the habits of animal dances . They shared with the Egyptians and the Incas the believe of the immortality of unburied bodies. The custom of artificially reducing the heads of their enemies were kept by the Basques in the same way as the Indians do in South and Central America.."
I am sure that any Dougnac reading the last paragraph
will recognise himself or at least some of his relatives on the text.
When I remember my brothers and sisters dancing,
my father or myself annoyed, my relatives singing, celebrating or fighting;
then there is not doubt.. we still are real Cro-Magnons..
I have tried to explain the historical background of our family. This is open for further discussion or contributions. I Know that we have some family member who would like to find out a more "blue-blooded" origin. I have a cousin who travelled all over the world until he managed to find the "Coat of arms" of the family. My dear cousin "Pirincho" gave a more aristocratic contents to our soul and he came back home with a horrible "cow and a sun with eyes, mouth and nose" with the following scripture "Dougnac de Saint Martin".
Now, what about us?
We are not Vikings, we are a consequence of the tragedy of the Latin American history. Myself and my wife Margarita Boussac came to Sweden in 1974 from Chile when the military took power. Like many other countrymen I went to exile. We were very young, just married and dreaming with the return to the mother-land.
We are still here, after almost 25 years. We have
four children, (you can read about them if you click on their pictures)
three of them were born in Sweden and the youngest in Zimbabwe.
We are still dreaming, not anymore in the return
to a country which turn itself more and more diffuse but in the lesson
of the past and the opportunities of the future.
Actually I am working as a Senior Agricultural Researcher at "The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences" During our time in Sweden we have spend about 15 years working in various African countries within the Swedish Development Colaboration Programs with the Third world . We have, as well visited more than 40 different countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and South and North America.
We have found several Dougnac in Internet, I am
sure that we must belong to the same Cro-Mangnons.
In the next page I give a chronological set up
of my original family. If you fit in in some of the branches, or if you
have some additional information, or if you just want to get in touch wit
us, please send a e-mail. Together we can reconstruct our past and build
up a strong world-wide family chain.
