The regiment traces its heritage to the
fänika (a tactical unit used in the late dark ages) that was raised in
the 1500:s in Västmanland. From this infantry Gustaf II Adolf formed a regiment
that in 1628 was devided into three smaller regiments, of which one was located
in Västmanland. The regiments first commander was Bengt Bagge. The regiment was
located in Västerås. It was disbanded in 1927.
The regiments color was white and wore
the heraldic symbol of Västmanland and had blue tounges in its corners.
