Carl Wennberg, Lappish Art and Handicraft

The History of Carl Wennberg

At the year of 1907 Franz Gustaf Wennberg opened a grocery shop in the lapplandish mine village Kiruna. In the village who got the name from the lappish word for Snowbird, Giron, not only mining workers lived but also many lappish people. The lappish people often payed for their goods with their own handicraft like knifes and cups etc.

As the time passed by, the grocery shop changed direction to sell more and more of the lappish art til it finally became a specialized lappish art and handicraft shop. At this time the shop was managed by the son Carl Gustaf and his wife Greta. In 1965 when Carl Gustaf died his son in turn Per Gustaf took over the shop, and in the beginning of the 90:ies Per left the shop to the fourth generation Carl Magnus. With an age of 90 years and as the oldest shop still running in Kiruna, Carl Wennberg AB has since two years one more shop, this time in the heart of Stockholm.

In the Old Town of Stockholm, right between the Stortorget ( BigSquare ) and the German Church on Svartmangatan 11 is Carl Wennberg Lappish art and handicraft. The finest lappish art is sold in the shop but also famous finnish silver jewelry is available. Members of the Wennberg family will always be serving you in the shop.
