Swissair MD-11, HB-IWC, msn 48445. Swissair, old Douglas-customer, selected the MD-11 for DC-10 replacement. The MD-11 is used on routes to the US, the South America, the Far East and on some routes to Africa and the Middle East. All the Swissair MD-11s have the powerful Pratt & Whitney PW4462 engines and are being upgraded to MD-11AH (Advanced Heavy) with increased take-off weight, aerodynamic changes and composite panels.
