| Ghana - Latest News |
Akoto's page has moved. Anyway, it still seems to be the best site that collects links to
all the sites that may be important to a Ghanaian especially one living abroad. If there is
anything important about Ghana on the net, Akoto has a link to it. To be sure, he doesn't
generate anything new on Ghana but his news highlights are great and he leads you to all the
important sites. And, except for the weekends or when he is out of town, he regularly updates
the site. |

| Network Computer Systems |
This is the home page of Network Computer Systems, the so-called leading infotech suppliers
in Ghana. Well, they were the first – and it shows. Ten years in the business, they call themselves
"Africa's leading supplier of Information Technology products and services". But the competition is
hardening up so they highlight the edges they have over their competitors - more Points of Presence
in Ghana than any other supplier, electronic data interchange (the first in West Africa), and an
electronic commerce where 'clients can pay using their credit cards'! The page also provides the
obligatory links to other Ghanaian sites. NCS still operates some of these other sites on behalf of
its clients. |

| Joy FM |
Joy FM continues its good work in supplying not only online news but its live broadcasts
on the net. There are now many local fm stations with some presence on the web but it is only Joy FM that
broadcasts online. It is still true, however, that if you are living in Europe or the Americas
you don't want to tune in to Joy FM to listen to the same kind of music you can hear on your
local stations. That is why it is sad that the plans for audio newsclips on demand have not been
fulfilled. But updates to the news pages are regular. For highlife music, you'll have to stay all
night CET to listen to it. The makers of the site (now known as GeniSys Solutions Ltd) have now realised
that lots of graphics embedded in heavy colours do not necessarily make the best and most
effective sites. Let's hope they keep to that. It is a site greatly recommended. |

| Daily Graphic |
Nothing substantially new has happened to this site for a long time. There is the
usual mixture of editorial, features, news, sports, business and economy and politics.
We see a new Graphic publication - Graphic Showbiz purporting to report on showbiz worldwide.
The discussion board is still there and you can read the views of other Ghanaians and post
your own views. But one would think that a leading daily paper would be able to afford daily
updates to their web sites. . |

| Ghanaian Times |
This site gives you news written in
Ghanaian Times. It is very simple and plain and you read all the news on the first page.
It looks like a page permanently under construction. |

| Independent
Online |
This is the Independent Online. The homepage provides links to sites on which you can read
the items published in the weekly. There are virtually no graphics on this page which makes it
very easy to download but for beauty … almost nil. Looks like an amateur’s work. It is part of a network
called Africa online with sites on some other African
countries. Well, the parent company looks a lot nicer than its offsprings. |

| The Chronicle |
The Chronicle's site
has moved. It is still part of the Africa Online establishment and has continued to improve.
It is still basically only a click and read affair though. The information value is not better
than those of the other pages reviewed here. The problem with many of these sites on Ghana
is that they are all tapping on the same news sources from Ghana. This results
in the little differences between all these sites in terms of the news coverage of Ghana. |

| Ghanaian
Digest |
The Ghanaian
Digest also belongs to the africaonline stable but it seems a little more attention has
been given to the construction of this site. The headlines have little highlights which make
it easier for you to choose what to read. This paper is a prime example of how the electronic
versions of our local papers look a lot more beautiful than the hard cover versions that Ghanaians
buy fom the newsstands. If only we can bring some of this clarity of layout and pictures to the
print versions. Anyway, when was this site last updated? |

| Ghana World Wide |
http://gww.ghana.com/ Ghana World Wide continues
to be a wonderful a window on the world of the electronic media in Ghana. Their feature on Ghana's
glossy (is the print version really so?) Radio and TV magazine is great - all the gossips, the stars,
news, and insights into Ghana's media world. Yes, they are trying to give Ghanaians no less than
western media give their citizens in terms of entertainment. Ghanaians outside the country
will share in this too - on the net. But many of the links on the home page don't exist. Where
have they gone to? |

| Ghana Review |
This is the home site of Ghana
Review International – the paper that, perhaps, started all this
thing about Ghanaian news on the net. The page has bounced back to life - and what a life!
Frames have been provided and the very black background is gone. There is generally more life
to the page and the colourful frontpage of the print edition adorns the website's centre.
The newsreel section is as good as always but there are other sections also: press review,
business, sports and a chat and discussion board, among others. Updates to the news items are
quite regular. |

| Africa Football Confederation |
African Football Federation’s home page.
This site has been removed for several months now. We are told it is being re-constructed but
like most things African, the construction time is taking ages. It was a nice site and if they
think they can make it even better, and are taking such a long time in doing so, then we'll be
in for a real knocker. We are waiting with bated breaths and we hope the long wait is
worthwhile. |
