Film Editing

The film editor has mainly three roles to fulfil:

1. Supervising storyteller.

To make sure the dramatic structure is correct and working.

2. Visual artist.

Make the decision on where to place the edit points to achieve maximum effect.

3. Creative motivator.

Ignite the director in a creative way and assist him in his quest to visualise his ideas.

Creating a Sequence

When creating a sequence you always have choose the shot that reveals the characteristics of the moment and underlines the dramatic function the character has to fulfil in the scene.

E.g. the same technique used by the ancient Egyptian painters, portraying a the human figure and it's different parts from it's most revealing angle such as head in profile, eyes frontal and arms and legs in profile.

Structure is the thing that separates something good from true art.

As someone said a human DNA string is almost identical to a monkeys , but the thing that separates them is the way they are structured.

The conclusion in the end of the dramatic structure is the most important statement in the presentation. The entire structure is , or should be based on this final conclusion. All the set ups through out the presentation can't be of any value except if these simple rules are obeyed.

Giving birth to a fictionary personality.

Character is one of the most important ingredients in a drama. Drama is the key to create a good presentation of any kind. Characters are created and judged by their actions in certain situations. The vital ingredient to create a believable character is to give them capability to evolve, this goes for documentary as well as Live-action productions.
