This is the readme.

What is it and what does it do?
In short this program selects a file and put the full name of that file in the clip. This can then be pasted into most programs. I mainly use it for programming purposes.

Why this program?
Well, when I programmed in MPW, I had to enter filenames manually, and I did not want to do that when the paths were long. So I wrote this program to automatically enter filenames into the clip. This also helped avoid spelling errors when manually entering filenames.

What is a FKEY?
An FKEY is a very small program that relies on old Mac technology. On the Mac Pluses a press on Command-Shift-1 would eject the internal diskette (remember diskettes?), Command-Shift-2 would eject the external diskette, Command-Shift-3 would take a picture of the screen and Command-Shift-4 would print the screen on an Imagewriter. Of these Command-Shift-3 remains today, and it is possible to use Command-Shift-4 to take a picture of part of the screen.
But it was (and is) possible to write programs that is called when you similarly press other number keys in conjuction with Command-Shift.

Installation
Install this program by dropping it onto the System folder. Your Mac should now automatically place it inside the Fonts folder inside the System folder. If it does not you will have to place it manually inside the Fonts folder.Installing
The file is locked because if it is _not_ locked, the MacOS will add all kinds of stuff needed for Fonts, but not needed for this FKEY. The file will grow in size if it is not locked when placed inside the Fonts folder.

Operation
1. Press Command-Shift-5. (all three keys at once) and presto, and you will get a standard getfile dialog.
2. Paste the filename into the document of your choice.

Example:
You are programming Applescript and need a filename.....
Want filename
press Command-Shift-5 to get a filename...
Select file
select the file, and paste the name into the Applescript.
Paste filename
That's it.

Modifying the FKEY.
This FKEY has an ID of 5. You can open the program in Resedit (search www.apple.com if you do not have it) and change the ID to any number, but a number 5 to 9 is recommended, as numbers 1-4 are reserved for Apple use. This number is the key that should be pressed with Command and Shift to call the FKEY. So if you change it from 5 to 8, you should press Command-Shift-8.
You will need to unlock the file before doing this, and do not forget to lock it afterwards.
