The big trick in this level is to engage one wave at a time. Harder than it sounds.
Clear out as much as possible before approaching the monument. The traitor can exit at one of several points on the map. Check out how the standard path through the woods is closed.
Boring and interesting? Yes, there is a boring initial archery
duel, but then there is tactic that works nicely. A small party of
warriors crosses the bridge and runs around the enemy, separating
them in pursuit and making the job much easier for the archers. This
also activated the wights, and the enemy got caught in wight
explosions. In fact the wight-hunting part is easier than Normal,
because the increased number of wights results in chain explosions
and wights dancing in pairs.
The large force can be a real threat with many ghols who can catch up
to you and soulless that will shoot you if you try to make a stand
against the ghols. But it is possible to kill the ghôls without
alerting the main force. Clear out the wights between the bridge and
the main force. If you get chased by the entire force and there are
wights blocking your way, you are dead.
Charge the archers and dwarfs forward to gain the maximum retreat/fighting distance.
The villagers never prayed at the temple, I dont think I have ever seen them do that. They died horribly, so in a sense I did take casualties.
That first ledge is a really good position. Rush to it after the first wave. Your berserkers work like heavy cavalry and should take the first wave in the flank.
Laying satchels in formation is the key to this one. Make a large minefield and trigger the soulless to come all at once.
When meeting the first wave of thrall keep all heroes in the cave
arm you started in and let Oleg and Ki'Ansi deal with the thrall. The
thrall will come around the corner in a packed formation, perfect for
dwarven grenades.
Once (actually 3 times) in a coop game we split up on the captains
order, and died horribly as the thrall also split up.
The key is avoiding fighting. The only reason I stick around is to gain valuable experience for Shadow on the mountain.
Preemptive strikes on two fronts. Let me recommend a preemptive strike on the beach with one or 2 berserks, the dorfs will throw satchel at their own troops.
Someone - sorry I cant remember who - recommended attacking the Shade with a Jman. And it was a good tip, because he can heal himself if he gets hit by a dispersal dream. Warning. This file must be viewed with 1.2! On any other version, it will show a loss. See buglist.
Yawn. Sorry. There is a long sequence when a Trow moves quickly between 2 positions and is unharmed by a heavy barrage of arrows.
I just love killing all those praying ghôls.
Training archers for across the Gjol.
Just like in Normal a wight stumbled into my minefield so it could
go off. Luck? Maybe, but watch how I "heard" it using a single
archer. For those not so lucky, use the technique I use to deal with
the remaining soulless, the warriors are much more sturdy and can
take more soulless spears.
3 veteran archers from Road North helped a lot, especially insuring
that those fetch dont get to close.
How to not fight the Shades. Lots of berserkers in red when I am done, but only one casualty.
