Mission: Find the bow and return with it to where you started.

Note:

The bow can be found in different places in different games. The standard strategy outlined here should remain the same.
I am sorry about the hard to see map shoots on this page. This mission is played in constant gloom
I also hear this map can be real trouble for colorblind players. If you have trouble seeing the blood prints, I suggest following the road, going left at any forks, and backtracking to the other fork if you could not find the bow. You can use your camera view to look for the bow, it should be clearly visible as a yellow "bracket" in the air.

Hints:

Keep your units close together till you find the bow. Enemies will appear from nowhere.
Pick up the bow by selecting an archer and clicking on the bow.
The bow can be used as a fetch's lightning. Select the archer with the bow, press "T" and click on an enemy, Zap dead. Hope none of your friends were close.

Difficulties:

Unit usage. Use the infantry on the small groups of thrall getting close, the archers on anything else.

Main Threat: Thrall literally popping out of the ground, unexpectedly.

Film: No casualties.

The Tale

The Map

The explanation

Rain!
They call it the dire marsh, and its dismal at least. We need to find the magic bow. Only the combination of this bow with the special arrows can hurt the watcher. We followed the bloodprints.

You will appear in the gloomy area of the dire marshes. Rain and gloom will make this a dark mission. Follow the bloodprints.

As we were walking along, there was a slurping sound. Thrall had come out of the ground near us and for a while we were in danger. Their slow speed was no disadvantage when they got close so fast. Killing them was hard work.

Keep you men close together as thrall will come out of the ground and attack them. They could cause great damage if the came upon your unprotected archers. You will need those archers.

We reached a fork in our route and in the stream. The prints were

There are several different routes to choose from. The bloodprints should show you the right way.

On the left side you can see the bow, it can be spotted quite a bit away. When you get close to it a squad of thrall will appear close.

Not only that but at least one larger group of thrall will appear. I suggest trying out the bow. Have an archer pick it up. With the archers selected, press T and click on a thrall in the middle of the enemy squad. Zap. You can use this bow to handle the rest of the level with ease. You can also rely on ordinary archery fire to give all your archers hero status for the next mission. They will need it.

Move slowly towards the starting point, but stay out of the way of any patrols you encounter. They will also be going there, but they will be much easier to deal with there.

There is a fork in the road a short bit northeast from where you started. The low route is going to where you started, but the high route which will give your archers the high position on any baddies near your starting point. You should run into soulless. I suggest using the magic T bow again, as a duel with several soulless will result in unwanted casualties. Continue and you will run into a horde of thrall in a dead end and 2 fetch below.

You should be able to pick of all of them using ordinary archery fire alone. Some F2 speeding up might be in order. Now all of you archers should be heroes. You might want to spare some badly wounded thrall for your warriors to give them kills.

Go back to the low/high fork. Advance your relatively unwounded warriors below while keeping the archers - with wounded warriors - covering them from above. More thrall should pop out of the earth. Run back with the warriors and your archers should have a shooting gallery. There are 2 waves of thrall on Normal level, so repeat.

Now you can safely return to the starting point. This bow can do wonders. To bad you wont get to use it anymore.
