1. The strategic cautious approach.
Solo levels are not network levels. In most solo levels you have
unlimited time to compleat the mission.Exceptions are the defend
levels like Crow's bridge, Shadow on the Mountain and Across the
Gjol. Use any spare time to heal up wounded troops, create good
presets and so on.
2. The tactical cautious approach.
There are several instances in Myth where you approach a defended
position, say a river to get across. Do not rush into this position.
Pick of any enemy reachable from your side of the river with you
archers, start of with enemy missile troops. Then advance slowly and
retreat back as soon as the enemy comes. Repeat. I have used this
tactic with small variations with great success in "Siege of
Madrigal", "Force Ten", "The Great Devoid" and more.
3. Create logical preset.
A good selection of presets will help a lot. It's a lot faster to
Command/Alt-Number select units than using double-click or square
selection. And you do not need to focus the view on the units. Use
similar set of presets in all levels. For instance I use 1-3 for
melee troops 4-5 for missile troops.
4. Know the weaknesses and strengths of units.
A dwarf will turn force of thrall into shreds if left alone. A fetch
will kill said dwarf in no time. Try to use your forces against the
type of unit they are best suited to kill. But first pick of the
worst threats to your units.

5. Use your missile troops.
In any melee trading blow for blow with the enemy, you will take
damage and casualties thus getting weaker. If you can fire upon the
enemy without getting retaliation, do so.
6. "Watch your fire!"
The dwarves and archers are pretty stupid. They will fire at the
enemy even if there is an obstacle in the way like a wall or a
friendly troop. Try to avoid units firing into a melee. Especially
important with dwarves.
