| Ever since I made the millitary service at LV4 in Ystad as a radarengineer I have been interested in flying. When I was near the end of my service I tried to get into the flight school in Ljungbyhed but I was too old already. I since then wanted to fly in some way but usually with such dreams they never happen. In April 97 my life took a turn and suddenly life had a new meaning. I went up to the hills outside Ystad called Hammars backar and met a hangglider from England. He was trying to fly in almost 12 m/s windspeed and he had problems getting up at all. Me and my friend were very interested and asked a lot about all kinds of things about flying. He said to us something that I found to be very true. He said that you do not want to be 70 and say to your grandchildren that you could have flyed that thing. It may cost a little to try, but in the end you can say that you did try it and what it really felt like. I thought that hanggliding was a good and relatively cheap way to fly. And with a wing you can actually fly. | ![]() |
I decided to take a 5 day course at Hammars HFK and I got trained by Paul Kiraly. It was no doubt a very different feeling from what I thought. In the beginning it was really hard. I even thought that this can not be it. But when I actually got up in the air, launching from the hills and flew almost 100 meters I felt the feeling of flying for a few seconds. It WAS different from what I dreamed of. At first I had no time to feel anything at all, but the last 7 or 8 launches that I made I had the time and confidence to enjoy the flight, and I canīt wait to be able to fly on the real hills on the winds from the sea. If you have a licence and still are flying the hills (slope) then contact me at my email and maybe we can fly together. If you are interested in getting a licence to fly, contact HFK.
