At these pages you will find information and thoughts about an unusual kind of art. It is called Ku Shin Do and is the traditional art from the master of Aiki Do. |
Why did I choose Ku Shin Do?
To make a long story short, I was in a state of my life where I needed to develop myself in several ways, mental, fysical and psycological. I needed balance and control. I new that I needed the possibilite to focus and use my mind to reach a higher state of conciusness. I was looking at Tai Chi but felt that it would not have given me the excersice that I needed. I walked straight to a place here in Ystad where they train different martial arts. When I showed up there was a group of people training Ku Shin Do. After a short description of what they were doing I decided to try twice for free. I do not know if there are other arts that might bring me the same satisfaction, but this one did give me all of the components that I needed. Unfortunately today we have only one training session a week. I believe I need more to keep in shape and reach my goals.
So what are my goals? Well, first of all I want to be in control over myself and to be able to focus and keep a balance between mental and fysical health. Besides this, I try to learn how to deffend myself in situations needed. I would like people not to know of my skill because I am doing this entirely for my self. In the beginning no one new, but as time has gone by some does. It is not a secret, but there are no reasons to tell. The belts are of no actual meaning for me, except that they show my grade of knowledge. Also they give me greater possibilites to learn, since my friends in this art increases theire level when they know that I am of greater skill.
Ku Shin Do, what is that?
I know that I am not the man to explain this because I do not have that knowledge nessesary to give Ku Shin Do a fair explanation. I have gotten a yellow belt though wich means that I understand some of the basic things about the art. What we do is that we use an attackers energy, absorb it and use that energy to avoid or neutrulize the attack. There are thousends of ways to do it so I have no place to give you all the aspects but generally you absorb energy by taking "in" the force. This is enhanced by breathing in, then you breath out your technique and take care of the threat(s).
There are a few important things to know when practising this art form. First is what is called Ma-ai and represents the distance that you always keep to every threat around you. This distans are a "safe" distance. An attacker can not reach you at this distance, but if he steps forward he breaks the Ma-ai and then you are able to either avoid his/her attack (ex. Sayu dosa) or you can absorb his attack and "throw" him in an empty hole. Yes, that might sound strange, but that is one way of explaining the name if our art: "trow in empty hole" or something like that. When we practice our techniques the attacker might feel like he is beeing trown into nothing. So, by avoiding you can keep Ma-ai, but unfortunately avoiding does not always "scare" away an attacker. When the time is right and the attack is done you use the second important part of the art. You take "in" the attack, Ki awase, and use that force to follow through a deffence. The Ki awase (capture of Ki) can be much better by breathing correctly! After you have gotten the power you use a third part that is important. Moving in circles! As you follow your shoosen technique and neutrilizes the attack you move in circles! You move in big or small circles depending on the type of attack. The whole art is built up of circles, as you start to train you realize this . .
As I said before this is just a try from me to you to explain what we do, why donīt you join us for just one time. Usually the first and second time is free so you can feel if it might be something to go for. I tested and I think it gives me so much. Give me a mail and I will take you there and then our Senzei can explain things better than this.
One aspect that I find important to notice is that we have very few younger actives. We would like to have more young people training, but as you might expirience, we are not a place for kickers and people who only seeks fysical "attraction". What we do has a very important deeper meaning and for most of us I think this is the reason why we are there. Along side with this we have a very kind way of teching, we have fun and we get tired!
I have taken some pictures at our place to show you some of how it looks. Take a look at the pictures section!
