The Copenhagen Winter Competition 1999 |
|
During the weekend February 20-21 the Copenhagen Winter Competition for soloists and quintets was held for the 25:th time. The MPD quintet placed first in the grade 4 competition, and was named Scandinavian Champions.
The leader of the band, P/M Mats d Hermansson, won the open piobaireachd competition and recieved the Copenhagen Challenge Trophy for Piobaireachd, a monstruos silver mounted drinking horn. In the same competition P/S Sven Axelsson placed third. The youngest member of the band, Jesper Wegge-Lind, got a well deserved second place in the slow air/jig competition.
The turnout for the competition was somewhat smaller this year, compared to 1998 when we competed with no less than three quintets. Still, we are happy with how things are looking at the present. We are starting to get a group (a small one, but still...) of fairly proficient pipers and drummers together. Watch out in open grade, we'll be bahk!
