La The Darkman A.k.a. La Trapa Khan Born Lason Jackson
J. Edgar Hoover said that power is looking through the eye of a gun.
It's like, 'Damn, that's how it is?'. (La The Darkman 1998) Lason Jackson was born in the Boogie Down South Bronx, he later moved to Brooklyn N.Y.'s Crown Heights at 10, his age when he wrote his first lyrics. From that age La knew why he was put on this earth. At age 17, he wrote the song "I Want It All," which closes his debut album "Heist of the Century". Apart from rapping, La also spent 2 years at Tennessee State University, paying his own way and studying business administration and accounting, an experience that has helped him in his career. In these days itīs 95% business and 5% music, if you donīt control the business side of your career the label/manager will most likely fuck you. "I'm definitely a businessman-artist," La says. "Knowledge is the foundation of everything in the world. Nothing happens without knowledge. Everybody understand that I'm an intellectual. When you see me, understand that. I'm a different division." In the mid 90īs La hooked up with Raekwon who took the rapper under his creative wing. La saw his new brother go from strenght to strenght, something that upped his own standards. In nine seven La debuted on the song "Devil in a Blue Dress" from DJ Muggs' 1997 compilation, Muggs Presents ... The Soul Assassins Chapter 1. Then followed some label stress and shit like that for La, but in November nine-eight it was finally time for his debut album "Heist Of The Century". The album was produced by Six July, 4th Disciple, Havoc, DJ Muggs and The Rza, and it features Raekwon, Ghost, Masta Killa and U-god. But still Heist of the Century reveals La The Darkmanīs own hip-hop style loudly and clearly. "It's not a good ending to the story, so maybe some people will listen to the lyrics and the life people lead and say, I don't want to do it that way. I want to go to school. I want to get this career, you know what I mean? I try to paint pictures in people's heads and carve pictures on the walls," La says. |
