ODB.. and the Clan - 99 04 04

The other day while it was pouring rain down here, I decided to, for the first time in a long while, to go looking around all the various Wu Tang pages on the internet. The thing that I found that surprised me the most was the amount of entries in guestbook and forum/BBS pages that made reference to Why Ol Dirty Bastard should be kicked out of the Wu Tang Clan. Damm I hadn’t even realized this was a issue amongst you all before I read these entries, otherwise I would have touched it up a long time ago.

Mid 1994...5 years ago I remember walking out to my mail box on a nice day and pulled out my monthly copy of The Source, as I walked back inside I did my usual routine with the magazine (for in 1994 it was basically front cover, news, fat tape, lyric of the month, mic check, article, reviews, Buc Wild and back page), when I came to the reviews section I noticed that this group with a funny name had been given 4 mics, The Wu Tang Clan. As I read the article I thought yeh this album sound aight, because I had previously seen these guys on the TV welding swordz in the video for Protect your Neck. So later that day I went down and picked up a copy of the album. After listening to the album twice I was sure I had wasted my money, Why you ask?.

All the beats where off, some of the raps where not in time and generally the album didn’t flow. However as I listened to it more I began to like it more and more, it basically grew on my and the main reason why it grew on my was because of the Ol Dirty Bastard.

See in the dayz of 36 Chambers Ol Dirty Bastard personified what the Wu Tang Clan was all about, making music, getting girls and getting hectic when they need to be, without ODB on the album it wouldn’t be anywhere need as hard core and raw as it actually is with him.

So why have I just told you all this?

Basically I cant believe that many people out there are questioning ODBs right to be in the clan. Just because he is fucked in the head, doing cocaine, threatening to kill people, stealing $100 shoes from shops and such, he still has a right to be in the clan. Without ODB in the first place I feel that the clan wouldn’t have been as successful as they currently are.

What rights do we as fans to question ODBs right to be in the clan...
The answer is simple we have no right whatsoever, at times like these we should be supporting the guy through his hard times, not dumping more shit onto him. I think a lot of you out there either aren’t true Wu Tang Clan fans or need to get others things to do, rather than creating rubbish issues like this which simply don’t need to exist at all. Unfortunelty I’m seeing more and more of it as I travel less and less on the internet, While the majority of you out there are keeping it true there are still those of you that have no idea what your talking about, damm its like I said last week, ..., well you know what that was all about.

All I want to finally say is RIP to Freaky Tah of the Lost Boyz, damm we are loosing these artists like flies, recently. Hopefully this will be the last one we lose in a long time.
