Once Louder than Loud, now quieter than a mouse - 99 05 02 Everybody by now should know about Loud Records split from its distributor BMG recently. As a result this has delayed the release of their albums, most notedly Mobb Deep and Inspektah Deck. However the delay is getting absolutely ridiculous at the moment for Mobb Deeps album the current date is alomst five months later than the original release date. I’m not going to go into all the reasons why they have split because I cant be sure the story I’ve been told is a 100% true, but basically we the fans are being denied these albums because CEO and managers of these record companies who already earn million of dollars each year are fighting over distribution of sales. I’m not going to say who to blame is in this article but it is just unbelievable that they are willing to jeopardise potential earnings because they want a bigger percentage of profit. So what do I mean you say by jeopardising potential earnings? We will take Mobb Deep's murder music as the example here. This album was originally due to be released like 24 February 1999, so as a result Loud’s promotion staff sent out copies of Murda Musik to all the magazines and such so as this album would get airplay and hype and lead to people saying I want this album I want this album. However because these joint have been in circulation for so long people have heard basically all the joints off the album. As a result because the album hasnt come out yet people are less likely to buy the album as a spur of the moment decision which because the appeal of a new Mobb deep album has passed, like 5 months ago. I feel that Murda Music will not be as successful a album as it could have been basically because the hype surrounding the albums has died. You go to Loud today and what are they advertising? Deck’s album, now what type of publicity is that, Murda Music isn’t out yet and they are now advertising for Deck which wont be out for even longer. Something is very wrong in Loud and they need to realise that people are getting pissed off with the way they are dropping albums (Or failing to drop them). I mean this isn’t the first time it has happened either. Wu Tang Forever was done in the same way delayed, delayed, delayed. I just feel this shit is wrong and they (loud) aren’t looking after the interests of their artists and fans properly. For all those who have been waiting for Mobb Deep and Deck and then Rae and such, all I can say is strap in for the long flight. Basically we will all be waiting a while before these albums come out. Prodigy of Mobb Deep was on the radio the other night talking about tours and stuff and when asked about when the album is dropping he said it would be out by 29 June this year (29 June is a Monday so expect this date to be the final date). This means that Inspektah Deck wont be out for another month after this. Considering that both these albums had been recorded a year ago this wait is just ridiculous bullshit from Loud. Loud records needs to wake up, get a new distributor and just put out albums like No Limit, to fully repay the fans for all the shit they have been put through recently in the split with BMG. I mean its almost the year 2G now, which means a new Wu Tang Clan album and damm they still have at least 8 completed albums to drop. Loud you need to recognise and realise!!!!!!!!! That done I have only recently realised I’ve never given any shoutouts to the supporters and peoples behind Say What. I would like to thank all the sites and influential peeps in this Internet Hip Hop game that have been showing my column some madd love over the last few weeks or so, especially since like I did that article on Realism.
