"Never go against the family" that is what Don Corleone teaches
and preaches in Coppolas gangster epos The Godfather.
Wu-Syndicate, who consists of Myerlansky, Napoleon, and Joe Mafia, representing the P-Town, Suffolk, and Tidewater areas of Virginia know what that line is all about. These Virginia cats have been down with the Wu-Tang as a part of their family from the beginning but had to wait and wait while others rocked the spot light. Joe Mafia says, "Wu-Syndicate is the best kept secret. A lot of artists are forgetting where they come from. We’re hungry right now while others are eatin’." Now as we approaches the new millenium the wait is over, it´s finally time for the Wu Syndicate to prove that they deserve to be Wu-Tang affiliates. The three-member team of Wu-Syndicate have been blazin’ the Virginia hip-hop scene for almost 10 years now. Just recently they formed their own independent label, 'Slot Time Records'. Wu Syndicate also known as Crime Syndicate was the first group ever to break the underground market in Virginia. But not much of their work reached the masses outside VA. It wasen´t until nine-eight the Syndicate broke through, the name of the break through song was "Where Was Heaven" and was featured on the Swarm compilation which peaked at #2 in Billboard Rap Albums chart. When it was time to record the debut album Wu Syndicate looked around their own neighbourhood for talented producer instead of working with The RZA and his crew. The only Wu Elements producer who is featured on the album is DJ Mathematics who droped the backgrounds for 'Muzzle Toe' and 'Pointin´ Fingers'. The majority of the album was put together by DJ Devastator, but it´s The Dread who impressed us the most with his two contributions. The icy cuban linx sounding "Ice Age" and in "Weary Eyes" a sad saga about todays youth in the projects "We are expressing everything that’s goin’ on in our communities", says Myerlansky, "Our primary target is the urban youth". The Rza´s famous quote from -94 still goes, the Wu is here to flood the industry and like Napoleon says, "Get ready cause...we are the new generation of Wu-Tang". |
