The origin
of NON SERVIAM goes back to '95. At that time bassist Chrille "Tyr" Andersson
and vocalis
Rikard "Amon" Nilsson were the base of a band called CARNACK. During the
year that followed,
there
wereeveral changes of band-members. In June ´96 the original NON
SERVIAM line-up finally saw the light
of day.
Tyr and Amon got in touch with the drummer Magnus Emilsson (former ASHES
OF LIFE).
In the
search for aguitarist Magnus contacted Daniel "Janos"Andersson (former
vocalist of ASHES OF LIFE). And so NON SERVIAM was born and with this a
band that wanted to play emotionally tinged quality Black/DeathMetal. They
picked up the name NON SERVIAM from a collection of poems, carrying the
same name. NON
SERVIAM
is Latin, and means serves No Man and the band felt that this name concluded
what the band
stands
for. After only some weeks of rehearsing and writing songs, they recorded
their first demo ("Between
Light
and Darkness"). It was never released to the market other than the copies
made at home by the band.
There
aren't even hundred copies of this demo made and because of this it's a
rare piece!
Shortly
after this demo, guitarist Johannes Andersson joined the band, which gave
a better opportunity to
make live
performances besides putting new life into the songwriting. The band had
some gigs in late autumn
1996 and
on one of these a live video was recorded (no longer on sale). In early
January 1997 they recorded
their
second demo, which consists of two parts, "The Witches Sabbath" and "The
Second Vision". On these
two pieces
of art the band showed that a significant development had taken place,
both of the music-style but
also technically.
They received an offer from German label Invasion Records in February which
they later
accepted.
In May that same year their debut album, carrying the same name as the
first demo, "Between Light
and Darkness",
was recorded. It was released in August and received a massive positive
response from the
media.
Shortly before the release, the band decided to continue without Johannes
and instead Anders
Nyander
took his place on one of the guitars.
During
the following autumn and winter the band did some gigs, among them one
as headline at Metal
Marathon
in Malmö, Sweden. April '98 it was time for the studio again and the
recording of the second album
entitled
"Necrotical". This time it was put together at Berno Studios in Malmö,
where masterpieces from
Spiritual
Beggars, Deranged and Defleshed, to mention a few, have been put together.
The result was an
astonishing
intense album filled with aggression, darkness, brutality and of course
technically superb
performance.
With a mixture of their old style together with Death and Thrash their
move towards a much more
brutal
sound, both musically- and production-wise, is a definite success! The
album hit the market in August
together
with a limited release of 500 picture LPs.After the recording of "Necrotical"
drummer Magnus decided
to leave
the band. During the autumn NonServiam has been looking for someone to
replace him with. The band is
currently
working on new material forthe third full-length album. What have been
heard from the band, the new
stuff
continues where "Necrotical" left us and will carry the band in an even
more brutal direction.
