Laura Nyro (f. 1947 the Bronx N.Y) började skriva musik redan som 8-åring! Slog igenom som låtskrivare till andra artister i slutet på 60-talet (Barbara Streisand, Fifth dimension..).
Har väl aldrig riktigt fått sitt fulla erkända som soloartist, musikkritiker alltid har hyllat henne som mycket begåvad men plattorna har aldrig nått ut till den breda publiken, har bara
haft en enda hit "Stone soul picnic"(1968). Hennes musik var i början soul/blues inspirerad framförallt i balladerna kan man skönja inspiration från Billie Holliday.
Senare har hennes musik blivit mer sofistikerad, gillar man Joni Mitchell och Tori Amos så kan jag verkligen rekommendera denna suveräna artist!
Den 8 april 1997 avled Laura endast 49 år gammal i cancer.
